Academics

The Cristo Rey Jesuit curriculum is centered around the core subjects of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Theology with a wide range of advanced courses and electives available in STEM pursuits, Music and Visual Arts, Social Sciences, and Foreign Languages.

Cristo Rey Jesuit is the only high school in Houston to combine its academic program with a four-year internship. By working one day a week throughout their high school years, students gain hands-on experiences that allow them to better connect theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations.

Our dedicated faculty bring their passion and subject matter expertise to every classroom. With a 13:1 student to faculty ratio, our faculty get to know each student, and tailor their methodology to teach with a variety of data-driven approaches.

Four teachers on our 2022-2023 faculty have received the prestigious Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award which recognizes innovative and results-oriented teaching and raises public awareness of the importance of effective and committed teachers.

Cristo Rey Jesuit provides an extensive 4-year College Readiness curriculum for every student all four years. The curriculum includes college counseling, financial literacy assistance, SAT prep, college visits, summer internships, and more.

A Cristo Rey Jesuit education is built within a Jesuit, Catholic framework that emphasizes the development of the whole person. Our graduates are formed to value the qualities of being Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Committed to Justice, Loving, Religious, and Work Experienced.

Cristo Rey Jesuit students take the required credits for a high school diploma under the standards of the State of Texas, Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB ED), and the Cristo Rey Network.

Advanced Placement courses prepare our students for the rigors of the collegiate classroom, and success on Advanced Placement exams earns them college credit before they graduate from high school. Students in AP classes are expected to take the AP exam at the end of the year.  Ten Advanced Placement (AP) classes will be offered in the 2022-2023 school year to challenge our students and prepare them for college level courses:

Arts and electives courses provide students with the opportunity to enrich their academic schedules with courses outside the core curriculum.
