Over the past week, we here at Cristo Rey Jesuit have been witness to an incredible work of art, as our crest is being made out of terrazzo, and embedded in the entryway floor.  Thanks to a generous donation from National Terrazzo, Tile, and Marble Inc., Cristo Rey Jesuit will have an exceptional, and beautiful showpiece for our entryway.

The photo above is the metal frame inset into the floor.  This frame will be filled with different colors of Terrazzo, then sanded and polished.  We here at Cristo Rey cannot wait to see the final product!

What is Terrazzo?

Terazzo is a mosaic flooring or paving composed of chips of broken stone, usually marble, and cement, polished when in place. - Dictionary.com

The word about Cristo Rey Jesuit is getting out far and wide, as our school was again featured in one of Houston's Spanish-Language newspapers. The May 13th edition of "La Voz de Houston" features a full-page article about Cristo Rey Jesuit, talking about our Open House on May 17th, and the exciting future of our school. Be sure to pick up the newspaper, which can be found at HEB, Sam's, Fiesta, and more! Read on for the full article.

While the Terazzo Crest is still being set and poured, Will Cunningham, the man behind the design of the crest itself, wrote a fantastic blog posting about it:

The crest we designed for Cristo Rey Jesuit is being re-created as a 6' x 9' terrazzo inlay for the entry way floor of the new school. We couldn't be more thrilled! In today's world of Tweets, Facebook Friends and everything else, it's a very gratifying feeling to see your design set in such a permanent medium.

May 17th Open House a Success

DSC03627On Sunday, May 17th, Cristo Rey Jesuit held its second "Admissions Open House", to show admitted students the school, and help applicants finish their applications.  The Open House was well-attended, and everyone had a wonderful time seeing the changes here at Cristo Rey Jesuit.  Thanks to all who attended -- read more to see all the photos from the event

texascathherald_topCristo Rey Jesuit was again featured in the Texas Catholic Herald -- this most recent article is in the May 8th edition, and features an excellent writeup about our Jesuit Alumni Event in April.  We here at Cristo Rey Jesuit are very thankful to Erik Noriega, and everyone at the Texas Catholic Herald for taking such an interest in our school!

Cristo Rey Jesuit continues to attract attention, this time with a two-page spread in "The Southern Jesuit", the magazine of the New Orleans Jesuit province. Cristo Rey's own Director of Communications, Susan Martin, authored the article, which features exciting information about the history of the school, the Cristo Rey model, our future, and more! Never before has a Cristo Rey school been so widely anticipated, and the excitement is contagious!
