Cristo Rey Jesuit 2010-2011 Student Recruitment Begins

This time last year, our Admissions Committee embarked on a campaign to convince students to buy into the idea of Cristo Rey Jesuit, the newest – and first co-educational – Jesuit institution in the South. “We had a mission fueled by the heart and dedication of many supporters, but we did not yet have halls filled with the energy and enthusiasm of teachers and students” reflected Sujey Romero, Director of Admissions. After a year of successfully spreading the word about our innovative program, this August, the doors opened to 82 students from across the Houston area. Now, the school is abuzz with the bustling-about of our students as they find their way to and from both classes and work.

With that new student activity as a backdrop, student recruitment has expanded along with our growing school. We have invited any and all middle school programs to organize a campus visit for their students. Likewise, students can choose to individually sign up to tour the school and shadow a current student for a day.

During a recent visit from 8th graders from Resurrection Catholic School, Dr. Cathy Thomas, Cristo Rey Jesuit Principal, challenged the students to reflect on a few things as they consider their high school choices. She encouraged them to consider not only which high school most closely matched their idea of the perfect high school, but also which would challenge them to become the best version of themselves - “We believe that Cristo Rey Jesuit students enjoy being students here because we encourage them to grow in a variety of ways in both the classroom and in their corporate work-study positions.”

Cristo Rey looks forward to working with 8th graders from across this city in the coming weeks, months, and years. If you know of any students whom you believe could benefit from an education at Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory, please do not hesitate to contact Sujey Romero, Director of Admissions at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
