HAP Kids Volunteer at Cristo Rey Jesuit

DSC_009695 students from 43 middle schools came to Cristo Rey Jesuit as part of the Higher Achievement Program (HAP) through Strake Jesuit College Perparatory. This program is designed as a three-week summer outreach program that provides opportunities for learning for rising 7th and 8th grade boys. In this program, the boys study both academics and athletics daily with Strake Jesuit faculty members, who are assisted by current Strake Jesuit students. They also participate in aspects of community service as part of the program.

As part of their service day, the students came to Cristo Rey Jesuit, and after listening to a talk from Father Martinez, they got to work. They did everything from moving donated furniture into its assigned classrooms to cleaning in the courtyard and the cafeteria. Their service was a huge help in preparing the school for its opening in August.

As students who would benefit from, but will need financial assistance to get a Catholic high school education, these are the kinds of students Cristo Rey Jesuit is targeting for our student body, and we hope to see some of them return someday soon as students.
