Silent Day
On October 18th, students participated in a Silent Day, a day of silent witness to the generation lost by abortion (an estimated 48 million since Roe v. Wade). This day of prayer was student-driven, and those participating made a statement by placing a large piece of red tape over their mouths.
Junior Elizabeth Martinez said she helped coordinate the event in order to bring awareness to the cause.
“We accept the point of view of others, but we want to educate those students who do not know much about the subject,” said Martinez.
She said she has planned other pro-life events at her parish and at the Catholic Charismatic Center.
Dean of Campus Ministry Casey Johnson also took an oath of silence. In order to teach his Theology class, he pre-recorded his lesson on the SMART Board recorder and played it back to his students. Students were thrilled by both his support for the cause and his innovativeness in teaching.
“The teachers saw our point of view and how we wanted to make the cause heard,” said Martinez. “They saw where we were coming from. “
