Deloitte Goes Above and Beyond
To Deloitte, being a Cristo Rey Jesuit Corporate Sponsor means more than just hiring a team of students in an entry-level position. The accounting firm went above and beyond by sending six of their executives to the school on Friday, September 23rd to teach PC Software skills.

Cristo Rey Jesuit was chosen as a community service site for Deloitte’s Day of Service, which is observed by all of their 100 offices in 89 U.S. cities. The visitors graciously volunteered their time to provide further enrichment to the juniors through Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint instruction as well as hands-on case studies.
“We were inspired by the motivation, positive energy, and discipline that were demonstrated by the Cristo Rey [Jesuit ]students when completing the Candy Profitability Excel case,” said Deloitte employee Pattie Chang. “These are the attributes that will drive their future success.”

The day proved to be educational and motivating for both the Cristo Rey Jesuit students and the Deloitte employees.
“I learned that Deloitte and Cristo Rey [Jesuit] hold many things in common,” said Chang. “We both value a high standard of achievement, professional demeanor, respect for one another, dreaming big and hard work. Moreover, it is clear that investing in people is what drives the success of both of these great organizations.”
This was not Deloitte’s first grand gesture of generosity towards the school outside of their work-study sponsorship. The company also sponsored Cristo Rey Jesuit’s Basketball team’s participation at the 2011 NCAA Final Four Basketball Camp conducted by NCAA coaches in the spring of last year.
Student Shines in Children at Risk Radio Stint
Cristo Rey Jesuit Junior Morgan Jackson may have a future career in radio! For the past several weeks, she has helped to produce CHILDREN AT RISK’s weekly radio show, Growing Up in America on KPFT 90.1FM as part of her Corporate Work-Study job.

Morgan’s major tasks are researching new topics for the show, answering phones and getting guest callers cued up on the line. She also helps with traffic and weather updates.
“Morgan is a blast to work with—spunky and always ready to jump in and help,” said Laura Nelson, Director of Strategic Partnerships at CHILDREN AT RISK. “Dr. Bob and Mandi, the show’s hosts, always ask Morgan to chime in with her opinion during our Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down segment, a social conscience scale with hot topics, like should kids have TV’s in their rooms or should schools have vending machines?”
One of Morgan’s recent tasks was getting Fr. TJ Martinez as a guest of the show on October 17th.
“It was cool hearing Fr. Martinez on the radio,” said Morgan. “He sounded hyper and excited.”
Morgan says her favorite part about working for CHILDREN AT RISK is the atmosphere because it is “so fun and energetic!”
“We have a really good time bringing our audience important updates on what is happening with the children in America,” said Nelson. “Morgan has been on shows with doctors, public officials, policy experts, and many more!”
