From
the President's Perspective
Making History . . . Again! From the beginning, Cristo Rey Jesuit has defied the odds and made history. We were slated not to open until August of 2010, but were able to found the newest Jesuit high school in the country one year early. In the midst of a global economic recession and company downsizing, we secured jobs for every one of our students at blue ribbon corporations across the city. At a time when some foundations and philanthropists were pulling back their support – especially for start up organizations – we launched a campaign to raise $10 million dollars by 2013 and, with the help of so many generous people, we have already raised $7.1 million as of this month. And most importantly, when close to 70% of the children living on the southeast side of Houston drop out of high school, we have the Cristo Rey Jesuit Class of 2013 already preparing to go to college. We have indeed been blessed by God and favored by history.

to explore during their freshman retreat. The all-day retreat, led
by Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes juniors and seniors, was an
opportunity for freshman to examine their faith, come together as a
class, and reflect on how Cristo Rey Jesuit has impacted their
lives.
